A Curious Thing

You can find millions of questionnaires online; questions to find your true purpose, questions to find your personality type, questions to find your SATC character, yada yada. There is no ONE list of questions that will give you the answers you need. You might need all of them, and you might need just one, because you never know which question will give you an aha moment. Sometimes, you don't even know what it is you're looking for, until you've found the right question.

As a coach, questions are pretty much my jam. Coaches don't tell their clients what to do, we strategically ask questions until the client finds the answers. We each hold our own answers, which is why trying to follow somebody else's diet, workout plan, or vision for life just never works. We have to get super curious about ourselves; and it's especially the questions we want to glaze over, the ones we think, "I know that one I don't really need to write it down," those are the ones we need to dig in to.

The cold that knocked me out a few weeks ago sent me into a bit of a reflective state - because I couldn't do much else for at least a week - and as the end of the year approaches, it seems like a good place to hang out. While I believe we should be evaluating and adjusting throughout the year, everything tends to slow down around the holidays, offering a good time to retreat a little, to take stock of the year that's closing, and set some intentions for the year ahead.

But first, you must ask a few questions.

This set of questions happens to be one that I ran through myself as I was just on the brink of a big change. I was in Spain and just getting curious, just beginning to realize that I'd never really asked myself a ton of questions. My suggestion for you is to sit down with a glass of wine or a cup of tea and your journal, and dig in to these. Don't skim past any of them. Don't "mail it in." When you feel like you have an answer, go deeper: ask WHY. Always ask why

Who do I admire?

What are my goals?

What drives me?

What makes me different?

What do others come to me for?

What do I want to be?

What is my oxygen?

What are my personal values?

What adjectives do I use to define myself?

After answering thoroughly, and going back to ask the question "why?" after each answer, just sit and read your answers. Really take them in, and write below them any insights, surprises, or conclusions that come to you. What strikes you, and what changes - if any - do you want to implement in the new year?
