Basic sh*t

As these weeks seamlessly blend together, I wanted to drop in real quick to bring it back to the basics.

Sometimes I nerd out about the human body and how it works and how incredible it is. I like to think about how the breath does it's thing and digestion (even if finicky) is always *trying* to accept and process whatever we put in there. The body has a built-in detox system, and we can either gunk up the gears or keep them well-oiled.

Something as simple as drinking water will have a positive impact on nearly every part of the human body. Sleep, real food, sunshine, movement, rest (besides sleep and watching tv), and time for your mind to wander - these are our vitamins. But notice I didn't say: 7-8 hours of sleep and 3 healthy meals a day and everyday workouts and meditations... because this is not prescriptive. It's different for every person, and what I think f*cks us up the most, is that it changes.

We spend a lot of our time and energy on trying to get it NOT to change, but that energy would be better spent on the actual effort. When we can take the pressure off of ourselves to follow an exact schedule or achieve some idea of "perfect," we can lean into the natural ebbs and flows and changing circumstances, and be cognizant of striking the balance as best we can in any given moment.

So this is your reminder that change is constant and instead of fighting it we can learn to pivot, constantly. Look for opportunities to take your vitamins. Know that you're never "back at square one," because that doesn't make any sense. When you have an "off" day or week it doesn't erase all the weeks your self-care scored higher. So keep going and focus on the BASICS. Make it simpler for yourself. Breathe.

We will always be working on "being better;" it's a way of life not a means to an end. Take the self-hate and judgement out of it and work with yourself for the long haul.
